Q Can I have my type of surgery at Comox Valley Surgical Centre?
All prospective patients are prescreened by our nurses and our
anaesthetist for existing health problems and it will be determined if
your surgery can be undertaken at our centre.
Q Is it as safe as a hospital?
Our professional staff work closely with patients, their
surgeon, and the anaesthetist to ensure all aspects of surgical
and post operative safety are maintained. The policies and
procedures of the Surgical Centre have been compiled in accordance with
the Manual of Accreditation, and Policies and Procedures
from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, RNABC,
and the Canadian Nursing Association.
Q Who can't have a surgery?
Patients under the age of two, and those
with serious preexisting health issues may be declined.
Q What about my privacy?
All patient information is confidential and
will be handled as such. Written patient records will not be
released without the patient's written consent. We adhere to FIPPA (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy
Legislation) Regulations.
Q Who uses private clinics?
The procedures are paid for by either private insurance covering Armed Forces, RCMP, Blue Cross, insured workers, and ICBC referrals, or under contract with Regional Health Authorities for MSP
covered procedures. Of the $92 billion that is spent
annually on health care in Canada, $28 billion comes
out of private pockets.
